The fifth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise powered its way to poll position this weekend earning No.1 at the UK Box Office. Showing no signs of slowing down the 5th instalment grossed £5.3m in its debut weekend alone!
The popular franchise has now grossed a combined total of £39.2m to date, and there are already reports that the Fast & Furious team is revving up for the next instalment in the franchise.
Rio maintained its number two slot while Arthur, which stars Russell Brand and Helen Mirren was the second new entry inside the top three.
Overall it is was a strong result from the top 15 films over the Easter weekend with Box office up +37% against the same point last year. It was also a strong weekend for alternative 3D content, with the release of TT3D, grossing £313K in three days.
In the US, Rio managed to stay on the top of the pack grossing $26.3m in its second weekend, down just 33%. Now with an income gross to date of $80.8m, it has extended its lead over Rango and Hop at the same point in release.
