Box Office: Wonder Woman fends off the competition

Diana Prince’s first solo movie outing as Wonder Woman played by Gal Gadot opened with £6.1m and sits at the top of the box office this week after slaying off the competition. That includes from £1.2m from 561 previews.

Baywatch came in second as its first full weekend (it opened on bank holiday Monday 29 May) served up £4.6m including £2.7m from previews.

After two weeks in cinemas, Pirates of the Caribbean sunk to third, and took in a weekend total of £2.7m with a -48% change. Its fall off without previews is 40%.

Another film in its second week was Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, which fell from second to fourth, taking in £851,207 for a total of £3.9m. It has an increase without previews of 29%.

Guadians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 completes the top five, adding £642k bringing its six-week total to a great £39.6m.

Elsewhere further down the box office, Alien: Covenant brought its total to £12.3m. It added £327,309 in and has been out for four weeks now.

The Boss Baby held strong by staying in seventh with £293k for the week leaving King Arthur: Legend of the Sword below with £209k across the three days. Their totals are now £27.9m and £4.6m respectively but The Boss Baby has had nine weeks on the big screen.

Secret Cinema drops one this week, with Moulin Rouge! in at nine, adding almost £133k. Snatched completes the top 10 with £104k and a new total of £1.9m.

Overall, the box office was up 64% from last weekend and up 6% for the same weekend last year.
