The annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity came to close on Saturday night with the final awards ceremony of the week taking place at the Palais des Festivals.

The event saw the winners of the Film and Film Craft categories announced along with this year’s Titanium and Integrated prizes and a host of other awards to round off the Festival for another year.

Film

The big Film winner this year was Channel 4’s We’re the Superhumans, directed by Dougal Wilson (of John Lewis ad fame). Created by 4Creative and produced by Blink, the ad picked up where 2012’s Meet the Superhumans left off and kept the bar for the broadcaster’s coverage at an all-time high.

DCM became part of the campaign by running the first ad for the hard of hearing in cinemas, which saw subtitled versions aired at ODEON complete with a sign language interpreter onscreen.

Film Craft

We’re the Superhumans had also been favourite to scoop the Film Craft Grand Prix at the Festival this year, but French directing duo The Blaze caused an upset with its video for track Territory.

The video follows a man’s emotional return to his home in Algiers including a reunion with friends and family and some suspect dancing on a rooftop. It all makes for a brilliant piece of film about the mind and masculinity set to a great soundtrack, also written by the directors (cousins Guillaume and Jonathan Alric).
