Gurinder Chadha OBE is one of the UK's most respected filmmakers - writing and directing box office hits such as Bend it Like Beckham and Bride & Prejudice. This March, Gurinder's new film, Viceroy's House, will tell the true story of the final months of British rule in India. The story is deeply personal to Gurinder whose own family was caught up in the tragic events. In the session DCM's Head of Film, Tom Linay, will discuss Gurinder's passion for cinematic storytelling, her creative process and her diverse career at DCM's session at Advertising Week Europe this year.

There is no better place to tell a story than the cinema. A captive audience, the biggest screen and immersive sound provides the biggest canvas for the world's best storytellers to help us make sense of the world around us. During this inspirational session, the pair will discuss why our desire for stories in the cinema is still so high and why they affect us the way they do. Tom and Gurinder will also focus on the making of Viceroy's House, which Gurinder co-wrote, co-produced and directed for release in UK cinemas on 3 March. Viceroy's House is a film that is both epic and intimate, with an inspirational message that celebrates tolerance. Many of the events depicted are either unknown or forgotten, but all have strong contemporary relevance in terms of lessons to be learnt concerning the politics of division and fear and our moral responsibility towards migrants fleeing violence for a better life.
