Today, Digital Cinema Media (DCM) has announced that Virgin Media has renewed its contract for the second year running, in a year long seven-figure deal. The partnership will help to promote Virgin Media Shorts - a short film competition for Britain’s undiscovered film talent - in independent cinemas around the UK.

Starting in September, Virgin Media will showcase the 12 short-listed films to cinema goers at over 200 cinema screens across the UK. The Grand Prize winner of the competition will be given nationwide exposure through the screenings, as well as receiving up to £30,000 worth of funding towards their next short film, working with the UK Film Council and Virgin Media.

A 60-second Virgin Media ad, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe Y&R, will also be shown in the cinemas screening the short films. The Virgin Media Shorts campaign will be supported by counter cards and leaflets at all participating sites. There is also a dedicated Virgin Media Shorts website at www.virginmediashorts.co.uk where film fans can submit their films, watch rising stars and vote for the People’s Choice award.

Jeremy Playle, client account director at DCM said: “The Virgin Media Shorts cinema campaign allows Virgin Media to connect with its target audience whilst at the same time establishing its film credentials”.

Ashley Stockwell, executive director of brand and marketing at Virgin Media said: “Virgin Media Shorts aims to give British film talent their first step on the ladder to success through showing their work on our award winning TV, broadband and mobile platforms. Through our partnership with Digital Cinema Media we are able to provide a unique opportunity for our film makers to have their work seen by thousands of film fans at cinemas across the country.”

Last year’s competition culminated in an awards ceremony hosted by Johnny Vaughan with the short film entries judged by celebrities including Kevin Spacey and Richard Branson.
