The Kino Leven, based in Scotland, has joined the DCM portfolio. It makes another great addition to the DCM portfolio and helps us continue to grow our 80% market share.

Formally the Regent Community Cinema, the Kino Leven was taken over in 2014 by Graham Reekie, a young entrepreneur in Scotland who also owns the Kino cinema in Glenrothes.

We spoke to Graham to get a bit of background on his time in the industry.

How did you end up working in cinema and what do you love about it?

I was studying journalism when I was 18 and there was a part-time projectionist post at The Playhouse, Perth. Having loved cine film from a young age, I decided to apply for the job and I was accepted...

What’s unique about The Kino Leven?

It is a single screen operation and offers leather sofas at a reasonable price instead of standard cinema seats. We have a full array of film and digital technologies.

Please tell us about any special events or screenings you run at The Kino Leven.

In the future ae are planning to show operas from The ROH and the MET.

What excites you most about the future of the cinema industry?

Although I miss there being film in the cinema, for programming the digital age makes my job easier due to its flexibility. I can see that the way we book films is changing, making it much easier for a single screen operation like Leven.

What is your favourite movie and why?

I have far too many, but probably Top Hat (1935).

What film role would you like to play why?

I’m far too shy for that!
