“It’s not where you take things from, it’s where you take them to”, wise words from Jean-Luc Godard. Hollywood has never been afraid to take a successful novel and translate the magic to the big screen.
There’s a good reason for Hollywood adapting novels, attracting an upmarket audience. This is good news for advertisers as research shows that these audiences prefer premium products, have a 10% higher than average income and are predominately AB consumers. They are early adopters and key influencers in their peer groups.
The remainder of 2012 contains some hot literary adaptions and 2013 carries on this trend.
JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D finally makes it to the big screen via the team that brought us the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Bilbo Baggins journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.

Jack Reacher, based on the novel One Shot by Lee Child, stars Tom Cruise and is directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The story revolves around the eponymous Reacher, a homicide investigator, who digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims, but things aren’t all they seem and he finds more than he bargained on. Jack Reacher will be in cinemas on December 28 2012.

Moving in to 2013, 'Twihards' rejoice! Stephanie Meyers’ The Host gets the Hollywood treatment in March. Aliens have invaded and the fight for earth is nearly over, with the aliens coming out on top. A Young girl is possessed by the soul of one of the invading aliens but will not submit, they come to understand each other and begin to aid the small pockets of remaining human resistance.

The remake of Carrie, Stephen King’s seminal novel on the results of pushing people too far hits cinemas on April 5 2013. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Carrie is the tale of a sheltered high school girl, who unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her peers.
