CinemaCon, the annual gathering of the world’s cinema exhibitors, took place last week at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas. Once again there was a raft of fantastic content premiered from some of the year’s most exciting film releases for attendees.

The event is full of buzz about the biggest blockbusters on the way in cinemas but for those who couldn’t get over to the big film extravaganza, we’ve put together in no particular order a top five picks from the three-day event that should by be firmly on your radar.

1. Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan's WWII epic was already one of the most anticipated films of 2017 but the footage screened in Las Vegas ramped up the excitement further. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy star in the dramatic retelling of one of the most crucial events of the 20th century. It's in cinemas on 21 July.

2. Baby Driver

The latest film from British director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, The World’s End) premiered at SXSW in Austin, Texas and attendees at CinemaCon were given a sneak peek too. Ansel Elgort stars alongside Lily James, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx, as a young getaway driver who finds himself taking part in a doomed heist. It has been receiving rave reviews, with Indiewire calling it a ‘wildly successful romantic heist comedy’, while The Hollywood Reporter said ‘it will delight the director’s fans but requires no film-geek certification’. It's in cinemas on 28 June.

3. Downsizing

Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendents, Election) is one of the most celebrated auteurs in independent cinema and his latest film sounds like his most out there film yet. Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig star as a couple who realise they would have a better life if they were to shrink themselves. It looks like a big 2018 awards contender. It's in cinemas on 19 January 2018.

4. Blade Runner 2049

The excitement for Blade Runner 2049 grows with each passing day and after six minutes of footage was shown at CinemaCon, it looks like everyone is onboard with this sequel. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. It's in cinemas on 6 October.

5. War For the Planet of the Apes

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was one of the best sequels of recent years and grossed over £30m in the UK. If the new trailer for War For The Planet of the Apes is anything to go by, it looks like director, Matt Reeves is likely to strike box office gold once again. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. It's in cinemas on 14 July.
