The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, better known as simply, The Academy, announced the nominees for 86th Academy Awards, affectionately referred to as The Oscars. The ceremony will take place on 2 March at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Leading talent and content from the movie industry has been recognised in this year’s nominations list. Gravity and American Hustle lead the nominations with 10 apiece. These movies will be going head to head in categories including Best Director and Best Picture.

Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave received nine nominations, including Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor and Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong'o. 12 Years A Slave recently received the prestigious Best Motion Picture - Drama award at the Golden Globes.

Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto garnered an impressive six nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for Leto and Best Picture. Both McConaughey and Leto recently walked away with the Golden Globes for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama and Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, respectively.

Dallas

Another movie to receive six nominations was Nebraska, directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways), starring Bruce Dern. Nominations for Nebraska included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
