The DCM team was out at Walker Media for the #WalkerCinema day, educating the agency on everything to know about cinema in 2014 and beyond. Sessions included ‘An introduction to cinema’, 'Research and insight', ‘The effectiveness of cinema’, ‘Mobile, innovation & sponsorship’ and the day was capped off with a film quiz, hosted by DCM’s Head of Film, Tom Linay.
Zoe Ibrahim, Account Manager, Digital Cinema Media, kicked off the #WalkerCinema day, with a session introducing 'Walkerites' to two specific cinemagoing audiences; Families and 15-34 Men.
First up were the family cinemagoers, or ‘The Weekenders’.
The Weekenders make up a whopping 76.5m admissions a year in UK cinema and typically visit in groups of four, providing brands with a rare opportunity to reach both parents and younger cinemagoers in the same environment.
Zoe then went on to introduce the 15-34 Male cinemagoing audience, or the ‘Die-hard cine-fans’. These guys make up a sizeable portion of annual cinema admissions (40m); they know what they want, when they want it, and where to find it. They are early adopters (a great opportunity for tech brands), so they’re first in the queue when a new film comes out and the first to tell their friends about it.
Next up on the agenda was the effectiveness of cinema, hosted by Alex Wright, Research and Insight Manager at DCM. Alex expounded on what cinema adds to a media plan by delivering hard-to-reach audiences and providing deeper message take-out.
The penultimate session of the day from DCM was on mobile, innovation and sponsorship, hosted by Lissa Cardell, Sponsorship Manager and Lee Besser, Digital Sponsorship Manager.
Lissa and Lee presented an overview of cinime, DCM’s mobile cinema companion app, which enables cinemagoers to use their little screen to get more from the big screen. BMW recemntly chose cinime for its ‘Ultimate Driver’ campaign, promoting the new 2 Series Coupé. They also covered what’s currently available from partnerships to multiplatform and multi-location innovations in cinema.
The last session of the day was hosted by Tom Linay, Head of Film, DCM. Tom put the assembled crowd through their paces in terms of film nous, with a devilishly tricky quiz, including the ever popular ‘minimalist film poster’ round and the classic ‘Opening lines’ round.
The winner of the quiz on the day was Lauren Bolsover, who won a special DCM goody bag, including cinema passes.
