Sunday night saw the 91st annual Oscar awards take place at the Dolby theatre in California, LA, and as always it was a night of laughter, tears and incredible red-carpet outfits.
The big winners of the night were split between Bohemian Rhapsody, Black Panther, Green Book and Roma, who each took 3 awards aside Bohemian Rhapsody that managed to secure 4 awards.
Rami Malek completed the triple last night with his third best actor win for his portrayal of Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, having previous Best Actor wins at the Golden Globes and The BAFTAs this year. Olivia Coleman won Best Actress for her role in The Favourite, sharing with the viewers a both funny and emotional speech.
The award for Best Picture went to Green Book, also winning awards for best original screenplay (Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and Peter Farrelly) and Best Support actor for Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of Don Shirley making it two best supporting actor Oscar awards in the last 3 years for Mahershala Ali.
Although Roma was not able to take home best picture as many had predicted, the film still led to Alfonso Cuaron taking home 3 Oscars, for Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Foreign Language Film. Spike Lee also claimed Best Original Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman, this being his first ever Oscar of his long stretching career as a director.
Best Animated Feature was awarded to Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse, beating rival animated blockbusters The Incredibles 2 and Ralph breaks the Internet. One of the more memorable awards of the night was went to Lady Gaga, who not only won the Best Original Song Award, but also performed live on the night with Bradley Cooper.
