The 2019 Golden Globe nominees have been announced, with Adam McKay’s Vice leading the pack with six nominations, closely followed by five nominations for The Favourite, Green Book and A Star Is Born.
Lady Gaga has earned a Best Actress nomination for her lead role in A Star is Born, a category which also features Olivia Colman, Rosamund Pike and Emily Blunt.
Speaking of her nomination for Mary Poppins Returns, Emily Blunt said she was "delighted in playing every aspect of this extraordinary and iconic character […] The entire experience working on it was spellbinding and that's largely to do with the incomparable [director] Rob Marshall who took on this project with great love, depth and courage in his heart[ZA1] ."
There is a strong British showing in the supporting actor categories, with Claire Foy, Rachel Weisz and Richard E Grant all receiving nods.
Grant, who is nominated for his supporting role in literary comedy Can You Ever Forgive Me?, described himself as “astonished and stunned” to receive his first Golden Globe nomination, whereas Foy described her third nomination as “such an honour”.
"I'm so proud of First Man and share this nomination with all the cast and crew," Foy added. "I also share this with the entire Armstrong family who have been so generous and kind throughout the whole process of making this film".
The winners will be announced at the 76th Golden Globe Awards ceremony on 6 January, the first ceremony of awards season .
