2024 BAFTA Film Longlists Revealed

The longlists for all 24 categories of the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards have been revealed, with Barbie, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon as the ones to watch with 15 longlist spots each.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the highest-grossing film of 2023 with £95.6m, appears in the longlist for Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Margot Robbie is included in the longlist for Best Leading Actress for her role as the title character, Ryan Gosling in Best Supporting Actor, and America Ferrera in Best Supporting Actress.

The second-biggest film of the year with £58.3m, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, appears in the longlists for Best Film, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Cillian Murphy is included in the longlist for Best Leading Actor for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, with Emily Blunt in Best Supporting Actress and Robert Downey Jr. in Best Supporting Actor.

Martin Scorsese’s film adaptation of the nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon, which grossed £10m in the UK, also appears in the longlist for Best Film, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Lily Gladstone is included in the longlist for Best Leading Actress, Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Leading Actor, Cara Jade Myers for Best Supporting Actress and Robert De Niro for Best Supporting Actor.

Other top titles in the BAFTA film longlists are Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, close behind with 14 spots, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro with 12, and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn with 11. Maestro and Poor Things are included in the longlist for Best Film, alongside the three films mentioned previously and All of Us Strangers, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Past Lives and The Zone of Interest.

15 films are listed in the longlist for Outstanding British Film: All of Us Strangers, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, The Deepest Breath, The Great Escaper, How to Have Sex, Napoleon, The Old Oak, One Life, Poor Things, Rye Lane, Saltburn, Scrapper, Tetris, Wonka and The Zone of Interest.

The next round of voting, to determine the nominations of the 2024 BAFTAs, is currently underway, and the nominations will be announced on Thursday 18 January 2024.

This year’s BAFTA Awards Ceremony will be hosted by British actor David Tennant on Sunday 18 February 2024 at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, and will be available to watch live.
