Awards Season: align yourself with 2018’s most celebrated films

Awards season is well underway and we’re hurtling towards the business end, with the BAFTAs taking place on 18 February, while the Oscars will be on 4 March.

In the run-up to both ceremonies a whole host of the world’s best filmmakers have been releasing their latest projects, including Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Paul Thomas Anderson and Guillermo Del Toro, in an attempt to win the coveted Best Picture Oscar.

Across the first seven weeks of the year, 16 films are released that could compete for the major awards. So that’s 2.3 films a week. This is great news for any brand looking to reach a premium upmarket audience.

We already know that cinema as a whole delivers an upmarket audience but during awards season the ABC1 profile leaps and 73% of awards season cinemagoers will be ABC1 adults, and there’s still an opportunity to be involved, with interest set to skyrocket following the Oscar nominations announcement.

The Oscar nominations were announced yesterday (23 January) and with the most nominated film, The Shape of Water, still to come, along with three other Best Picture nominees (Phantom Thread, Lady Bird), there’s still time to align your brand with the most celebrated films of the year.

To mark the occasion, Digital Cinema Media’s (DCM) Fantasy Film League is also back with the annual Oscars Special, building on the anticipation for next month’s ceremony. Find out more and enter here
