"There’s been a true mixture of films at the 2022 London Film Festival, with some showcasing grand scope, including Empire of Light. The combination of beautiful visuals and a stunning central performance by Olivia Coleman will make it unmissable on early next year’s slate."

Callum Brown, Agency Executive

"Whilst the critics and awards will undoubtedly flock to Olivia Colman’s performance, let it not be missed that Micheal Ward is the heart, soul and stand-out in Sam Mendes’ story of a bygone era in coastal England. Blending together a coming-of-age story and unlikely romance with individual stories of racial attacks and mental health – Mendes tackles a lot in a 2-hour runtime, but at the centre of all this remains a beautiful cinema (where ticket prices are £1.50) the characters can retreat to. Whilst 1980s England undoubtedly had its problems, the one place we could collectively gather to lose ourselves in a fantasy world was the cinema, and Empire of Light adds to the long list of beautiful cinematography by Roger Deakins and the purely cinematic tales of Sam Mendes."
