Box Office Round-up

Alien: Romulus continues to hug the top spot adding £2m, a drop of 46% from last weekend. It added a further £529k on Bank Holiday Monday for a new total of £8.8m. The previous Alien film, Alien: Covenant, finished on £12.9m but fell a hefty 62% on its second weekend, so Romulus has a good chance of at least matching that final total.

Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us stayed in second posting another strong hold, falling just 35% to £1.8m. It added a further £485k on Monday which takes its total to a terrific £16.3m. We mentioned last week that It Ends With Us could end up doubling the final total of Where The Crawdads Sing (£8.4m) before the end of its run and it looks like doing that this week.

Deadpool & Wolverine continued its sensational run, falling just 25% to £1.8m from Friday to Sunday. It then added a further £505k on Monday for a new total of £52.6m, which makes it the fourth highest grossing film in the MCU, behind only Avengers: Infinity War (£70.8m), Avengers: Endgame (£88.7m) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (£97.1m).

Despicable Me 4 had an incredible weekend, increasing on last weekend’s total by 19% with £1.4m. It added a further £401k on Monday for a huge new total of £42.4m. Excitingly, it still has a great chance of getting between £47 and £48m, which is where every single Despicable Me sequel or Minions spin-off has finished.

Rounding out the top five, music biopic Kneecap opened with £1.1m, which includes £784k from extensive previews. The film achieved an excellent 4.5 stars and a 92% Total Positive rating in Comscore’s PostTrak exit pol,l so this one might be around for a few weeks.

Outside of the top five, the major new entries Blink Twice and The Crow opened in sixth and eighth respectively with £746k and £410k.

Inside Out 2 is now up to £56.9m and has overtaken Incredibles 2 to become the third highest grossing Pixar film of all time.

The Buzz

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim is a brand new animation set in one of the most popular of fantasy worlds. Produced by Peter Jackson, it’s an anime from one of the foremost exponents of the style, Kenji Kamayama (Ghost In The Shell TV show). A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg.
