The Weekend Round-up

After a stunning opening weekend last week, Avengers: Infinity War delivered a strong second weekend, especially considering the fantastic weather throughout the UK. It added £10.1m, a drop of 56%, which takes its total to £49.1m. Including bank holiday Monday, when it added another £2.7m, it has now grossed £51.8m, which makes it the biggest film of the year so far overtaking Black Panther (£50.4m). Today it should overtake Avengers Assemble (£51.9m) to become the biggest Marvel film in UK history.

Amy Schumer had her best ever opening in the UK as I Feel Pretty kicked off its run with £1.3m, which included £83k from previews. Including bank Holiday Monday, it’s on £1.5m. Schumer’s previous films Trainwreck and Snatched opened with £932k and £842k respectively, so I Feel Pretty should end up as Schumer’s biggest hit to date in the UK, which is currently Trainwreck with £3.2m.

A Quiet Place fell 57% to £395k over the weekend, which takes its total to £10.8m. It added a further £81k on bank holiday Monday and it has overtaken the £10.4m that Get Out finished its run with last year.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society took something of a tumble in the hot weather, falling 63% to £357k. That takes its total to £4.3m, and with another £76k on bank holiday Monday, it is now up to £4.4m and has surpassed Their Finest’s final total of £4.1m.

Rampage completed the top five, falling 65% from the previous weekend to £256k. That takes its total to £8.3m, and after it added another £80k on Monday, it’s now on £8.4m.

Outside of the top five, a couple of other new entries failed to make much of an impression, with The Strangers: Prey At Night opening in seventh with £205k  (£242k including Monday), and Tully opening in seventh with £139k (£172k including Monday).

Overall, the box office was down 61% from last weekend and up 22% from the same weekend last year, when the top films were Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, A Dog’s Purpose, Fast & Furious 8 and The Boss Baby.
