The Weekend Box Office Round-up
Storm Eunice was out in force at the weekend but the UK public still ventured out to the cinema. Uncharted posted a terrific hold, falling just 20% to £3.8m. That takes its total after 10 days in cinemas to £12.2m, and it’s already the fourth biggest film of 2021. Just a reminder that Uncharted has already outgrossed many recent live-action movies based on video games, including Assassin’s Creed (£8m), Tomb Raider (£7.7m), and Warcraft (£6.1m).
Sing 2 stayed in second but posted a sensational hold, falling just 2% to £3.2m. That’s the best hold in the top 10 and takes the blockbuster animation to £23.3m, surpassing Peter Rabbit 2’s final total of £20.5m. It’s also surpassed Sonic The Hedgehog’s final total of £19.3m and is the biggest family film since Frozen II.
Death On The Nile also posted a strong hold, falling 29% to £1.3m, which takes its total to £4.7m. It was clear from its opening last week that this wouldn’t come close to Murder On The Orient Express’s final total of £24.2m, but after 10 days in cinemas it still hasn’t surpassed that film’s opening weekend.
Channing Tatum has been absent from our screens recently but he’s making a big comeback in 2022 and his first film of the year, Dog, which he also co-directed, opened in fourth with a solid £822k. Later in the year he can be seen in The Lost City, alongside Sandra Bullock, and in Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Belfast completed the top five, falling 28% to £756k, which takes its total to £13m. With the major awards still a few weeks away, it will hopefully be around for a while longer too.
Outside of the top five, Spider-Man: No Way Home continued its remarkable run in sixth, adding £640k, and is now up to £94m. Today it will overtake Avatar to become the fifth biggest film in UK history. Next on the list is SPECTRE, in fourth with £95.2m.
Overall the box office was down 15% from last weekend.
Next Weekend

- Cyrano is a musical starring Peter Dinklage. Too self-conscious to woo Roxanne (Haley Bennett) himself, wordsmith Cyrano de Bergerac (Dinklage) helps young Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr) nab her heart through love letters. It’s in cinemas on Wednesday.
- Studio 666 stars rock band Foo Fighters who move into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated 10th album. It stars Foo Fighters.
