Bradley Knocks Johnny Off Box Office No.1

Grossing £2.1m in its opening weekend (including previews), Limitless starring Bradley Cooper jumped straight into the top spot over the weekend. It performed well against other recent thrillers Unknown and The Adjustment Bureau, beating even Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' £1.8m debut.

Ranking second over the weekend was 3D family animation A Turtle's Tale, grossing an impressive £1.1m, beating Ponyo's £172K opening. This is the fourth best opening of any Optimum Releasing distributed movie, and their biggest family film opening ever.

The sword and sandals epic The Eagle starring Channing Tatum fought its way to third place, grossing £1m including previews.

In the US, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 beat the girls of Sucker Punch to the top spot, claiming an estimated $24.4m in box office receipts. Beating its predecessor's opening of Diary of a Wimpy Kid ($22.1m), 20th Century Fox benefited from releasing the sequel so soon after the first movie, which is especially important for family films. 51% of its audience was male with 59%aged under 25.
