Cinema had a fantastic Valentine’s weekend, with a huge total of £22.2m at the UK & Ireland box office, and almost 2m DCM admissions.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy stole the hearts of the British public once again, opening top of the UK box office with £12.3m, and over 1m DCM admissions to date. It’s the highest opening since Wicked last November (£13.6m), and the highest debut of the Bridget Jones Franchise.

The film achieved 4.5 stars and an 89% Total Positive rating in PostTrak’s exit poll, rising to 96% among women, who accounted for two thirds of the audience.

Captain America: Brave New World also received a lot of love, with £6.4m and 540k DCM admissions. This latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe opened higher than both Captain America: The Winter Soldier (£6.0m) and Captain America: The First Avenger (£3.2m). This sets a great precedent for Thunderbolts*, Marvel’s next superhero movie, which opens on 2 May.

There are even more exciting films to look forward to in Q2 of this year, including:

A Minecraft Movie, 4 April
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, 23 May
Karate Kid: Legends, 30 May
F1, 27 June
