Barbie and Oppenheimer have been making waves for the big screen since being released solely in cinemas on 21 July.
Last week was the biggest week of box office in the UK & Ireland of all-time, while cinema industry admissions also hit 7m in one week for the first time since 2012!
And the successes continue to come.
This weekend, the UK & Ireland market total was £26.9m, the second biggest box office weekend of 2023 to date.
Barbie added £13.2m, dropping only 29% from its opening weekend. Greta Gerwig’s hit is already the second-highest grossing release of 2023 in the UK. Globally, Barbie has hit a huge $774.5m (through Sunday) and is now the third-biggest film of the year worldwide.
Oppenheimer also had an incredible hold, dropping a modest 25% to add £8.2m this weekend and the drama is the fifth-highest grossing film of the year so far in the UK. Globally, this puts the running total on the Christopher Nolan epic at $400.4M.
To date, Barbie has delivered an incredible £47.9m at the UK box office, approx. 5m industry admissions and a huge 23 16-13 women industry TVRs, while Oppenheimer has delivered £27.6m and 2.5m industry admissions.
Screenings for both films continue to be sold out as audiences embrace this cultural phenomenon and experiencing watching new content on the big screen.
