David Prosser's July Blog

dp BLOG BANNER JULY

Dear Exhibitors,

What a big turnaround in our weather and what a scorcher July has turned out to be.

Not what you Exhibitors had ordered but luckily it's turned out to be more mixed in the last few days so maybe the cinemagoing weather has returned for the school holidays.

It was good to meet up with Brian and Gillian Harries in South Wales. Brian has been trying to retire but still has to keep a close watching brief on the Brynamman site. Brian had some wonderful news as he told me that he has recently been informed that he had been awarded The British Empire Medal for his long services to the Brynamman Public Hall. He will make a visit to Buckingham Palace in the very near future to receive his award. So what a fantastic period for our Exhibitors on receiving awards for their services to Cinema. First it was David Williams of WTW, then Gerry Parkes (who recently passed away) of the Parkway Cinema and now Brian Harries.

Isn't it great that our Exhibitors are now actually getting recognised for all their hard work over so many years.

Sadly I missed Geoff Greaves's grand opening of the Redruth Regal and by all accounts it was a grand affair. Congratulations to Geoff on finishing a great refurb. Knowing Geoff he will now be lining up his next project. I'm hoping to visit Redruth next month so I will be able to witness the finished site in all its glory.

I've been unlucky to have had to make several trips to London this month, in sauna conditions, to discuss assistance to Exhibitors both now and in the future. So watch this space for further news in the coming months, we are thinking of you.

What wonderful news for the 100 not out for the Scala Ilkeston celebrating its centenary.  From memory this was the first site purchased by Klash Suri. The site was then owned by James Collington's family and previously run by his mother who was a wonderful lady and ran the business so efficiently and with such a lovely manner. Both Klash and James have done brilliantly since those early days.

The kids movies are doing do so well I see the take on Despicable Me 2 is now over £30m and Monsters University is already up to £8.6m.

Finally, I must congratulate Trevor Wicks on pulling off a great coup to screen the Worldwide Premiere of Alpha Papa in Norwich.  True Hollywood style!!

Hope the school hols remain good for you.

All best wishes,

David Prosser
