Last night (2 October) Digital Cinema Media (DCM), in collaboration with Publicis London and Poke, hosted the UK premiere of the exciting new documentary General Magic at Curzon Bloomsbury.
General Magic tells the story of a business that Forbes described as the "greatest dead company in Silicon Valley", which laid the foundation for the creation of the smartphone. It is a tale of how great vision and epic failure changed the world as we know it.
The documentary has been picking up significant buzz from film festivals, with the Hollywood Reporter describing it as 'A fascinating cautionary business tale', while Den of Geek wrote 'So why watch a movie about a failed company? Easy. The collapse of General Magic brought about the creation of items we all use every day, maybe several times a day. When you take into account that every single person in the film went on to make something extraordinary, it looks a lot less like a failure and more like that step they needed to take to get to this point.' I was also voted one of the top ten films of Tribeca 2018 by Time Out Magazine.
Nick Farnill, CEO of Publicis London and co-founder of Poke was the night's compere, while directors Sarah Kerruish and Matt Maude were also in attendance, taking part in a Q&A after the film, answering questions from the audience.
