The Campaign Media Awards took place last night as the media industry gathered at London’s Park Lane to see in and celebrate the latest crop of winners for 2016. It was a fantastic night for DCM as our live cinema stunt for Smart Energy GB with PHD won in the Financial, Corporate and Utilities category.

The live stunt, entitled Breaking Through the Screen, took place at the end of 2015 and was created by AMV BBDO. The innovative execution saw Smart Energy’s brand ambassadors, Gaz & Leccy, let loose in the darkened room to promote  the company's smart meter rollout with the UK government.

Unleashed at Picturehouse Central before a screening of Paranormal Activity 4, the unsuspecting audience got the shock of their lives and some priceless entertainment as the characters came to life and caused havoc in and around the cinema screen.

The video created from the stunt went viral on social media and has become a classic case for innovations in the cinema space and what’s possible when great creativity is applied with cause.

A team of 16 industry leaders from agencies, media owners and consultancies were split into five groups to decide the category awards for this year’s Campaign Media Awards during the main judging day at Bloomberg’s London headquarters in Finsbury Square. Other notable winners on the night were MediaCom, which picked up 10 gongs, and Primesight, which won Outdoor Sales Team of the Year.

The Media Campaign of the Year prize was awarded to MediaCom’s Missing Type campaign for NHS Blood, which saw big brands and organisations remove a letter from their logos and business signs to highlight the cause that more blood and organ donors are needed in the UK. ODEON was one of the companies that took part, removing the iconic Os from ODEON STUDIOS on Leicester Square.
