2015 has marked a phenomenal year for cinema advertising. Ad revenues, box office figures and admissions have all been up thanks to the power of our unique environment, our upmarket, undistracted audiences and the amazing film content launched in cinema.

There have been stellar performances both on screen and at the box office records have been broken time and time again.

January’s awards season highlighted the very best that cinema has to offer, and Eddie Redmayne’s Oscar winning turn in The Theory Of Everything saw the film cross the £20m mark. Fifty Shades of Grey surpassed all expectations in February, becoming the highest grossing 18 certificate film of all time.

Into April, Fast & Furious smashed the series best by over £13m, becoming the highest grossing film in the series in just ten days on screen, while Avengers: Age Of Ultron saw the biggest April opening ever.

June was dominated by what became one of the biggest films of all time. Jurassic World opened with the fourth biggest opening weekend of all time and it’s the first film to make over half a billion dollars worldwide after just its opening weekend.

In July, Inside Out became Pixar’s biggest non-Toy Story hit (£39.1m to date), while Tom Cruise returned as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, and it became the first film in the series to crack the £20m mark.

SPECTRE broke all records in its opening seven days by grossing a gargantuan £41.3m, eclipsing Skyfall’s record, while Star Wars: The Force Awakens saw the biggest opening day, the biggest Saturday, the biggest Sunday, the biggest four day opening and the biggest Friday to Sunday opening weekend of all time!

And that doesn't even cover all of the amazing content seen on the big screen over the last 12 months.

There has been much debate in Digital Cinema Media's (DCM) offices around what the best films of this year have been, but the votes are in and the result of DCM’s films of 2015 are here!

Three films stood head and shoulders above the others, one from the very start of the year, one from the middle of the year and one from the very end. In fact, had this poll taken place a couple of weeks later, it’s quite possible that a different film would have come out on top.

Top 10 films of 2015, as voted for by DCMers:

1. Whiplash

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

3. Mad Max: Fury Road

4. Birdman

To quote DCM's Head of Film, Tom Linay, "What a great list. Here's to an even better 2016!".
