The weekend’s DCM admissions were a new post-lockdown high, up 235% from last weekend. Looking at individual films, for the first time a new release was the busiest film of the weekend - Russell Crowe’s Unhinged, with Onward the second busiest film
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back was once again the most popular of the re-released films, coming in third, while Eva Green’s space drama, Proxima, was fourth. Back To The Future completed the top five.
Comscore has reported that there were 323 cinemas open in the UK and Ireland this past weekend (up from 187 last weekend), with 279 of them in the UK (up from 148). Overall the industry wide box office was up 36% from last weekend
Looking more closely at the box office, Unhinged opened in the top spot, knocking Onward down to second. Another family title, the Australian animation 100% Wolf, opened in third and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back was once again the most popular of the classic titles in cinemas. Horror title The Vigil was a new entry and completed the top five.
Now it’s been a month since cinemas began to re-open, we can look back at the last four weeks and see that DCM admissions saw significant week-on-week growth every week, with an average weekly increase of 36%.
