Picturehouse Cinemas is set to launch a new state-of-the-art cinema on Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London.

This will see Picturehouse Cinemas taking over the unused St Thomas More Hall (formally St. Anthony’s RC School), with the operation of a three screen, community cinema seating a total of 244 people; screen 1 - 105, screen 2 - 86 and screen 3 - 53 seats.

The screens will be equipped with state-of-the-art 3D digital projection and 7.1 surround sound, plus luxury seating with ample legroom. Significantly, the architectural integrity of the building has been preserved and in some areas, brought back to life as original beam work in screen 2 is revealed as a beautiful architectural feature.

A community celebration of the first new cinema in East Dulwich since 1972, will take place in due course with exclusive preview screenings for ‘Founder Members’, a ‘Builders and Architects’ (some of who are locals) screening and a ‘Church screening’ for the parish office of St Thomas More Church, the owners of the renovated Victorian building.

The cinema will be exhibiting an eclectic and diverse programme of films, which will include mainstream highlights, art house gems, world cinema, British film and feature documentaries.  There will also be a film club to suit everyone - Big Scream (parent & baby), Kids’ Club, Autism-Friendly screenings, Slackers Club for students, Toddler Time, and Silver Screen.

Additionally, Picturehouse Screen Arts will broadcast cultural highlights from the National Theatre Live, Metropolitan Opera Live, Royal Shakespeare Company’s Live From Stratford-Upon-Avon, Bolshoi Ballet Live from Moscow, and many more.

The Café-Bar will be an integral part of this cinema, serving an exciting and diverse adult and children’s menu complemented with a unique beverage offering.  The cinema has a garden, which provides a small outdoor dining space and an esoteric British herb garden supplying fresh produce daily, which will complement the cinema’s food.

Lyn Goleby, Managing Director of Picturehouse Cinemas said:
“We hope that the East Dulwich Picturehouse & Café will play an important role in the local community.  It has been developed with a huge amount of support from local people and we are very much looking forward to it becoming a vibrant part of East Dulwich.”

East Dulwich Picturehouse & Café will become the 21st cinema in the Picturehouse Cinemas group.
