Everyman Cinema has announced a one day ban on movies at ‘Screen on The Green’ on Thursday 1 February 2018, in support of Time to Talk Day: an annual event run by Time to Change, dedicated to getting the nation talking about mental health.

Instead of screening films, the Islington based cinema opens its doors to members of the public to talk - showing that wherever you are, you can talk about mental health this Time to Talk day.

In a partnership forged by Digital Cinema Media (DCM) and Ogilvy & Mather, the event will be hosted by Hoss Ghonouie, head of marketing, Everyman Cinema alongside Sue Baker and Jo Loughran, Directors of Time to Change, with support from local champions. Throughout the day Time to Change champions will be on hand to answer questions and encourage discussion.

Hoss Ghonouie, head of marketing, Everyman Cinema said: “The Everyman movie ban is taking place on February 1st. Instead of watching a film, we’re encouraging guests to come in and have a chat instead. We want as much talking in the cinema as possible. 1 in 4 adults experience mental health problems every year. So come down with a friend for a chat and a drink in support of Time To Talk Day.”

Sue Baker OBE, Director of Time to Change, said: “People still think there’s no right place to talk about mental health, but conversations have the power to change lives wherever they take place. That’s why this Time to Talk Day we’re asking everyone to talk openly about mental health wherever they may be. We’re excited to see the Screen on the Green, a place we usually sit in silence, transformed into the perfect place for conversation. Too many people with mental health problems are made to feel isolated and ashamed and the more we talk about it the better life is for all of us.”

Jeremy Kolesar, Creative Business Director, DCM, added: "We’re passionate about the power of the cinema environment, which offers a haven with no distractions from the outside world. Creating unique experiences is a core part of the Everyman offering, which is why this is the perfect association for this campaign, where people can have open conversations in an engaged, clutter-free environment. We’re extremely proud to be a part of this initiative and encourage everyone to get involved.”
