Fighting its way to the top spot in its opening weekend was The Expendables which grossed an impressive £3.9m (including previews) in the UK. This marks the biggest opening result ever for both Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone, beating Rocky Balboa's £3.6m opening. The Expendables has also beaten recent action-flick The A-Team which grossed £3.6m in its opening weekend.

In the US, the story was also about The Expendables which held on to the top spot for the second week in a row. The action film has grossed an estimated $64.9m to date in the States.
