Picturehouse is set to turn part of the Trocadero centre in the London’s West End into a new seven-screen, 1000 seat arthouse cinema.
The company will redevelop the former Cineworld multiplex into a cultural venue, bringing it more in line with their cinemas in boroughs from Brixton to Hackney. Embracing the alternative style of Picturehouse, the centre’s programme will feature mainstream films alongside independent and foreign language films, documentaries and theatre broadcasts.
The new venue will also have lots of bars, with the size of the site enabling more festivals and events with all-day tickets covering all the cinema screens during the festivals.
Clare Binns, the company’s director of programming, said: “It’s really a church of film where people can come and be in a real film palace where there’s food and drink and like-minded people who want to see great films.”
Picturehouse Central will open in late spring in 2015 and will be a fantastic addition to DCM's independent cinema portfolio.
