November is always a great mix of the best upmarket, potential award winners and the biggest blockbusters, and this year is no different. One of the UK’s very best filmmakers returns with what looks like an absolute stunner. A big literary series returns to the big screen, there’s two huge animated films timed for Christmas, and we once again return to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.
Widows
Steve McQueen’s last film was the Oscar Best Picture winning 12 Years A Slave, which was a huge hit in the UK. His follow up is set in contemporary Chicago amidst a time of turmoil. Four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. It looks absolutely sensational and has already bagged the coveted opening night slot at the BFI London Film Festival.
