Four Lions, the debut feature film from controversial comedian Chris Morris grossed an impressive £608K from just 115 screens in its opening weekend.
The satire follows four young Muslim men from Sheffield who decide to become suicide bombers. Chris Morris claims to have spent three years researching this project, speaking to terrorism experts, police, the secret service, imams as well as ordinary Muslims and wrote the script in 2007.
The film, originally rejected by both the BBC and Channel 4, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year and was short-listed for the festival’s World Cinema Narrative Prize.
