A couple of weeks ago we looked at the upcoming big hitting male movies of the summer, now it’s time to look at something for the whole family. Why families? They account for a hefty 79m admissions per year, 49% of total admissions (Source – FAME 2013 ) and 92% make sure they are seated before anything is shown on screen (Source – FAME 2013).

There are also a host of biog family titles out this summer, first up, on 12 July is Monsters University 3D. Before the monsters were incorporated, they needed to be educated. Mike and Sully return to the big screen and bring a whole host of new shenanigans with them.
The Smurfs 2 3D, out 2 August, has The Smurfs teaming up with their human friends to rescue Smurfette, who has been kidnapped by Gargamel since she knows a secret spell that can turn the evil sorcerer's newest creation, creatures called the Naughties, into real Smurfs.
In 2006 it was Cars, now Disney takes us to the world of Planes 3D on 16 August. Dusty is a crop-dusting plane who dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem is, he is hopelessly afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true.
The phenomenon that is One Direction will hit the big screen on 30 August. Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis will give fans an access all areas pass to their live concert in a documentary style movie, One Direction: This Is Us, directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me).
