Gaiety Cinema in Whitehaven has added a new lounge area at the venue as well as announcing an event programme for the venue.
Having reopened eight months ago, the new lounge has been created from previous office and storage space adjacent to the cinema's foyer and kiosk and the refurb involved demolishing walls, installing new toilets and revealing and restoring an original parquet floor.
The new lounge area was built to complements cinema’s 1920s building with its original cinema seating and vintage cinema posters on the walls, but also boasts a modern, urban feel with contemporary furniture and décor making for a unique and diverse environment where cinemagoers can meet for pre or post-film drinks.
To coincide with the opening, Gaiety has also launched an event cinema programme, which will offer live theatrical broadcasts of theatre plays, ballet and opera, allowing customers the chance to experience performances they may never normally get the chance to see.
“We’re delighted with our newly-revealed lounge area and hope that it will add to the whole cinematic experience at the Gaiety. Customers can now comfortably enjoy a chat and a drink with friends before going into the cinema or discuss the ‘best bits’ of their chosen movie after the film has finished,” said Gaiety Cinema Marketing Manager, Charlotte Kennedy.
“We also believe our newly-launched event cinema programme will add another dimension to the venue’s repertoire. With live theatre, opera, ballet and concert broadcasts forming just the beginning of a new venture for us, offering the people of Copeland the chance to ‘sit in the audience’ for performances they may never normally get the chance to see.”
