Genesis Cinema has unveiled a new film festival for 2019 entitled Fragments Festival. The festival aims to celebrate and champion inclusivity, hoping to reflect the talent of not only women behind the camera, but also people of colour, LGBTQIA+ individuals, differently abled filmmakers and many other groups.
The Festival will run from 7 - 15 June, with the opening gala showcasing the Elle Fanning-starring Teen Spirit, and the closing gala being She Who Must Be Loved. Highlights throughout the festival include Hail Satan? on 14 June and Alice T on 8 June.
Owner of Genesis Cinema Tyrone Walker-Hebborn commented: “Our main aim is to give under-represented filmmakers a platform to showcase their work and to hopefully expose audiences to something new, inspiring and enlightening […] the catalyst for the festival’s inception was the fact that only 16% of films are directed by women and even after the #MeToo movement in Hollywood there was only one female directed film nominated for an award. The Fragments programme this year has 80% of the films made by filmmakers who do not identify as straight white cis males.”
Tickets are on sale now. For more information and full programme, visit the festival website here.
