On Friday 17 January DCM was extremely privileged to be invited to the Centennial celebrations of the Picturedrome Bognor Regis, which first opened its doors in 1919!
Picturedrome Managing Director Adam Cunard welcomed the greater and the good from the local area as well as many industry colleagues; including Merlin Cinemas and The Uckfield Picturehouse. Adam recounted visiting the cinema as a small child to watch Disney’s Aladdin, and some 25 years later he now runs this cinema along with 6 others across the UK. Also in attendance was Susan Keane, the granddaughter of the first official manager of the cinema back in 1919!
The evening kicked off in style with a drinks reception accompanied by the Centenary Jazz Quartet. Local Historian Sylvia Endicott then took us through the amazing history of the building before the finale; some of the amazing adverts through the years followed by a 35mm print of The Smallest Show on Earth, after which we all stood for Her Majesty the Queen as the National Anthem played out in all its cinematic glory.
A truly amazing evening that DCM felt honoured to be a part of. Many congratulations to the Picturedrome team, Emma and all the staff for the ongoing services this amazing cinema is providing to the local community.
