The Parkway Cinema, an independent family-run cinema in Barnsley, has been chosen as the only cinema in the north of England to show Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in traditional 70mm film.

Owner of The Parkway Cinema, Rob Younger, managed to secure a rare print of the film after being involved in preparing 70mm projectors in central London, ahead of the film’s upcoming UK Premiere. Only a handful of 70mm films of Oppenheimer exist in the entire world.

DCM’s Operating Model allows our cinemas to run digital ads ahead of 30mm or 70mm. Speak to Steve Davis to find out more.

Rob will personally be hosting each of The Parkway Cinema’s special screenings of Oppenheimer. He will be taking questions about 70mm film and give audiences a chance to visit the projection room. Northern film fanatics will be able to enjoy a once in a lifetime cinema experiences at their local independent venue.

Rob Younger is a highly respected industry veteran of over 40 years, and trained as a projectionist in the late 1970s. Earlier this year, he was announced as the winner of the UK Cinema Heroes competition by the UK Cinema Association (UKCA) and Searchlight Pictures. The competition was held to celebrate and recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond to keep the magic of the big screen alive for communities up and down the UK.

Oppenheimer has had a stellar opening weekend at the UK box office, achieving an incredible £10.9m. Outside of the Batman trilogy, Oppenheimer is director Christopher Nolan’s biggest opening weekend in the UK & Ireland.

Last weekend was the second biggest weekend the UK box office has ever seen, proving cinema’s unrivalled ability to create cultural moments and draw in audiences.
