Introducing Rob Tomalin

DCM has appointed Rob Tomalin as Head of Business Development, following the promotion of Joe Evea to Commercial Director. Rob will oversee a range of new multi-platform creative advertising possibilities in cinemas, opened up by the adoption of digital. In an initiative to bring brands closer to their audiences - before, during and beyond the cinema experience - he will also lead DCM’s new digital product development with a focus on media owner partnerships and sponsorship. Read on to find out more about Rob and what he plans to deliver to exhibitors.

Close Up: What do you love about cinema?

RT: I love the sense of anticipation of going to the cinema. It is a place superficially cut off from outside life. To immerse yourself in a film for two hours is one of life’s great pleasures!

CU: What is your favourite movie?

RT: Apocalypse Now – a truly ground breaking epic.

CU:  What did you do before DCM?

RT: I have a varied multi-media background working for some of the UK’s leading media companies including ITV, Capital Radio and Bauer.

CU: What will you be doing at DCM and what will you bring to exhibitors?

RT: I will be leading the roll out of multi-platform brand partnerships with all our exhibitors, developing partnerships with complimentary media owners and building relationships directly with clients. The big prize for everyone involved in cinema is to see the sector double its share of the total advertising pot.

CU: What opportunities do you see for cinema in the new digital age?

RT: It is a really exciting time for cinema from a commercial point of view, the opportunity for existing and new advertisers has just got significantly better. The recent digital developments allow cinema to offer more dynamic advertising opportunities at all levels and will feature on more brand plans. Cinema will now be more of a consideration for quick turnaround brands that can use the medium in a tactical way.
