Karen Stacey has been appointed permanent chief executive of Digital Cinema Media (DCM), having taken on the role in an interim capacity following the departure of Simon Rees before Christmas.

Prior to DCM, Karen worked in the media industry for over 25 years, holding senior positions at Bauer Media UK and Channel 4, working across all platforms including TV, radio, magazines and digital.

Nigel Sharrocks, non-executive chairman at DCM, confirmed: "The Board and I are thrilled to welcome Karen to the DCM team on a permanent basis after conducting a full recruitment search.

"We’re impressed with the approach Karen has taken and the impact she has made to date, and we look forward to her continuing to drive the business forward."

Stacey takes control of the market leading company in cinema advertising during what is expected to be one of the biggest box office years in decades.

She said: "Demand for cinema has never been higher. The medium is experiencing huge growth and innovation, it's more flexible and targeted than ever and there’s a range of exciting opportunities available for brands to engage a diverse cinema-going audience.

"Admissions are expected to cross the 170 million mark this year, revenues are hitting double digit growth and brand count is up 60 per cent over the last 18 months.

"Simply put, it’s a brilliant time to be in cinema."
