On Wednesday 18th June Sheffield’s Showroom Cinema will be hosting a Q&A session with Director Ken Loach, following the screening of his latest film Jimmy’s Hall.
Jimmy’s Hall is set in the 1930’s and tells the tale of political activist Jimmy Gralton, who is deported from Ireland during the country's 'Red Scare' of the 1930s. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and was released in UK cinemas on 30th May 2014. It is expected to be Loach’s last feature film, as he approaches his 78th birthday.
Loach, who has a long-standing association with the Sheffield Showroom, is known for his style of tackling powerful social issues, whilst at the same time doing so in a warm hearted and approachable way. Loach’s other work includes the 1969 drama Kes and The Wind that shakes the Barley, which awarded Loach the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.
The session will take place on Wednesday 18 June 2014, starting at 5.30pm. Tickets are on sale now via the Showroom Box Office hotline 0114 275 7727. For more information, including directions to the venue please visit the Showroom Cinemas Official Website www.showroomworkstation.org.uk.
