The Christmas period presents a great opportunity for alcohol brands looking towards cinema to reach the elusive 18-34 audience. Although alcohol brands are not able to run with certain types of films, there are plenty of big titles throughout the festive period that can carry alcohol advertising.
The stand-out title of winter 2014 and potentially the whole of the year is Interstellar. Last time Christopher Nolan tackled big budget original sci-fi we got Inception, one of the greatest of all blockbusters, so it’s fair to have stratospheric expectations. Although the plot is being closely guarded it reportedly involves a group of scientists travelling through a wormhole to find new land to grow crops. Interstellar is released on 7 November and stars Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain.
The sequel to Horrible Bosses will also be hitting our screens on 28 November. Horrible Bosses 2 features an amazing comedy cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz, and is ideal for brands looking to target a 15-34 audience.
Finally, the year’s last big alcohol title is released just in time for the New Year’s festivities. Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings 3D, is the most highly anticipated 3D film of winter 2014 which carries alcohol advertising. Christian Bale plays the lead role of Moses as he leads the Israelite slaves out of Egypt. Perfectly timed for the Boxing Day rush, Exodus: Gods and Kings 3D hits cinemas on Boxing Day.
