Moana and Maui are back and take the number one spot at the UK box office!
After Wicked posted the biggest opening weekend of 2024 last weekend (1.2m DCM admissions), Moana 2 came and delivered even more across its opening weekend! The sequel to one of Disney Animation’s most beloved films opened with £11.9m and 1.2m DCM admissions. That’s even bigger than Inside Out 2’s opening weekend, which is currently the biggest film of the year.
Moana 2 has extremely high audience scores, with 80% of kids in a PostTrak exit poll over the weekend saying they must see it right away, whilst 40% said they would watch the film again at the cinema.
On it's opening weekend, Moana 2:
- Had the biggest opening weekend of the year to date, with 1.2m DCM admissions in just three days
- Achieved £11.9m at the UK & Ireland box office
- Opened 432% higher than the first Moana film, back in 2016 (£2.2m)
The family favourite is still forecast to deliver 1.7m DCM admissions from Friday 6 December up until Christmas, and there are still opportunities to get your brands involved and maximise their AV campaigns!
