I had the great pleasure of attending the grand reopening of the Maxime Cinema, in Blackwood last week, another great addition to the Picturedrome Electric Theatre Company Ltd. portfolio of sites, owned by Adam Cunard.
Picturedrome have four other sites serviced by DCM; Picturedrome - Bognor Regis, Century Cinema - Clacton on Sea, Plaza - Dorchester and the Carlton Cinema - Westgate-on-Sea.
The Maxime opened to the public on Friday 6th August, with The Inbetweeners 2 featuring prominently. The cinema now boasts 5 screens, after a major refurbishment, accommodating over 650 seats. The style is a mixture of modern and retro, with screen 1 maintaining the historic theatre look with a gigantic pull back curtain. There’s also spacious upstairs bar area.
The cinema first opened in 1939 and had a varied history over the last 75 years. The Maxime will certainly attract a lot of patrons back to this historic site, which is situated right in the centre of Blackwood’s busy high street.
It’s another fantastic addition to the DCM portfolio and we wish Adam and his team every success.
