This week Tyneside Cinema's Jonny Tull talks to us about how he kick-started his career in the cinema industry and what he's most looking forward to this year.

How & when did you start working in cinema and what do you love about it?

I started working in the Tyneside Cinema in 1994.  I was studying and needed to undertake a three-week placement, and after my first choice was unavailable I ended up at this crazy little art cinema which screened all kinds of film from all over the world. I fell in love with the place – and with the idea of cinema as a career - right away.

What are your three most favourite cinemas?

The Tyneside, the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, Canada, and Cinema City, Norwich.

What film are you most looking forward to in 2015?

There are so many!  45 Years, Me And Earl and The Dying Girl, Macbeth, Spectre, The Lady In The Van, and of course, Star Wars – The Force Awakens.  And that’s just a handful.

What excites you most about the future of the cinema industry?

Film consumption is changing, and despite multi-platform availability of film, what’s always going to endure is the thrill of a bunch of people sitting in a room together and having the same experience in front of a movie.  That’s never going away.

What do you think are the most iconic cinema ads and why?

Anything for ice cream from the 70s.

What three things do you most enjoy doing in your free time?

1) Reading
2) Running
3) Watching films
