The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner – a Q4 full of fantastic feel-good blockbuster films!

As the weather gets colder and the Christmas holidays approach, families come to the cinema to experience storytelling and escapism, and quality time with their loved ones:

  • 76% of the HP+CH audience agree that ‘Going To The Cinema Allows Me To Have Some Well-Needed Time Out From My Day-To-Day Life’
  • 71% agree that ‘The Cinema Is A Great Way To Spend Quality Time With Family And Friends’

The family audience is a great target for travel and technology brands. They are:

  • 3x more likely to plan to spend a lot of money on buying a new smartphone
  • 78% more likely to love to buy new gadgets and appliances
  • 2x more likely to plan to spend a lot of money going on holiday abroad

The co-viewing nature of the HP+CH audience also enhances content engagement and ad recall, with:

  • +38% uplift in content engagement
  • +18% uplift in ad recall

Of the top 10 films of 2024 so far at the UK box office, five out of ten are family films. This includes the biggest blockbuster of the year to date: Inside Out 2, which has quickly become the eighth highest-grossing film of all time.

Paddington In Peru

Seven years on from Paddington 2, everyone’s favourite marmalade-obsessed bear is back for another adventure. In this film, Paddington and the Brown family travel to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest. Paddington achieved c.5.9m industry admissions, and Paddington 2 5.4 industry admissions, so this third instalment is likely to follow a similar trajectory.

Moana 2

Eight years after the original Moana, Disney is bringing back Moana and Maui in a sequel set to be just as enchanting and exciting as the first film. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

Mufasa: The Lion King

Release Date: 20 December 2024

The live-action The Lion King is one of Disney’s biggest films ever, achieving 11m industry admissions in 2019. This new story is all about Simba following in his father’s footsteps as king of the Pride Lands, whilst also exploring Mufasa’s origins. It’s directed by a great American filmmaker in Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), with music by Nicholas Britell, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Pharrell Williams.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

The speedy blue hedgehog from Sega’s iconic video game series is back for a third instalment. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, whose powers are unlike anything they have faced before. The trio must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.
