Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D took the top spot at the UK Box Office last weekend grossing £1.7m. This is by far the biggest opening for the franchise, taking the record from 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction (£932K) perhaps in part to the buzz around the latest film's 3D release.
The horror opened Stateside on the same weekend and stormed straight to the top of the Box Office there too, grossing an estimated $26.7m. This is the seventh best September opening of all time and the highest opening for the franchise. Exit polls indicated the audience was 58% male with 49% being under 25 years old.
