The highest new opener at number one this weekend is horror sequel Scream VI with £3.0m (including Thursday previews). This makes it the highest opening weekend for a Scream title, as well as being the highest horror opener since It: Chapter Two (£7.3m) in 2019.

Creed III is in second spot in its second weekend, dropping 46% to gross £2.7m. Michael B. Jordan’s action/drama has a total gross of £9.3m, overtaking the lifetime of Creed (£5.8m) and only 7% behind Creed 2 (£10.0m). The boxing sequel has already grossed more than each of the Rocky titles, with the top performer being Rocky Balboa (£8.8m). 

Another new opener is at number three with 65 grossing £1.2m. This makes it the tenth-highest opening of the year, above Plane (£1.1m) and behind Babylon (£1.3m).

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is at number four with £902k, dropping only 22% in its sixth weekend of release. Joel Crawford’s sequel has now grossed £23.2m in total, making it Universal’s ninth-highest animated release of all time, overtaking Despicable Me (£20.2m) and behind The Grinch (£28.1m). 

At number five is Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, which drops 50% to gross £722k this weekend. Marvel’s latest project has a current cume of £18.3m, overtaking the total of its predecessor Ant-Man And The Wasp (£17.8m) as well as Venom: Let There Be Carnage (£18.1m) and X-Men: Apocalypse (£18.3m).

Cocaine Bear places at number six with £560k and a total gross of £4.7m. Elizabeth Banks’ movie is currently the seventh-highest grossing film released this year so far, above Pathaan (£4.3m) and Babylon (£3.9m), and 11% behind A Man Called Otto (£5.2m). 

What's Love Got To Do With It? is number seven, grossing £485k, a 43% drop in its third week, while new release Champions is at No.8 with £376k (including previews).

New Hindi title Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is at number nine, grossing £194k (including previews), while Epic Tails is at number 10 with £160k and the smallest drop of the Top 10 (-8%).

The overall box office is down 7% from last weekend, and down 14% versus the equivalent weekend in 2022 when The Batman remained at number one in its second weekend with £7.4m. 

Year-to-date, 2023 is now 4% behind the same period in 2022, having been ahead for the first two months of the year. 

This week we have a variety of big releases for audiences to choose from, with British comedy/drama Allelujah (Warner), Mia Goth horror prequel Pearl (Universal), South London rom-com Rye Lane (Disney) and superhero sequel Shazam! Fury Of The Gods (Warner) all opening on Friday.
