The shortlists for the annual 2013 Screen Awards have been announced by Screen International. The Screen Awards were created to recognise and celebrate the UK industry’s exemplary work in marketing, distribution and exhibition at every level and across every platform, with Digital Cinema Media (DCM) and the Cinema Exhibitors Association (CEA) sponsoring new categories in the line-up.

The annual event is returning for its fourth year with 22 awards to be won – including six new categories this year. Digital Cinema Media is proud to sponsor the Brand Partnership of the Year category, a category which aims to further acknowledge the significance of a brand’s involvement with film and recognise top brand-film partnerships from the year. Entries have been judged on how the brand and film both benefited from the partnership and how audiences were involved in compelling ways. The category was also open for partnerships that aren’t single title specific.

This year’s nominees display a range of creative and inspiring work from multiple platforms, highlighting success from every level of the industry be it a small indie or top studio. Although box office success is an element that is taken into account when judging entrants, industry achievement is also grounded on the quality and originality of the work that has been showcased by these entrants over the year. A full list of this year’s categories follows below.

Nominations for ‘Exhibitor of the Year’, an award new to 2013, have been divided into two separate categories for the circuits (over 50 screens) and smaller operators (50 screens or under), both of which have been sponsored by The Cinema Exhibitors’ Association. CEA Chief Executive, Phil Clapp, described how this category celebrates more than ‘box office or admissions’: “It will also be about using innovation and creativity to reach out to and engage audiences.” Cineworld, Odeon and Vue have been shortlisted in the over 50 screens category, with eight exhibitors in the 50 screens or under category.

Returning categories will continue to celebrate exceptional creative work, campaigns and teams within the industry, including Media Planning Agency of the Year. A selection of the shortlists appears below and winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony on 30 October at the Park Plaza Riverbank, London.
