Sony has launched a stunning television and cinema ad to mark the arrival of its 55” and 65” X9 4K Ultra HD televisions and demonstrate the pioneering 4K technology behind their latest launch. The ad showcases the fantastic visual that 4K produces, in four times the detail of Full HD, with its creative played in the extraordinarily sharp, refined detail that is usually limited to cinema screens.

Created by McCann London, the ad features eight million colourful petals, representing the eight million pixels contained within the 4K television screens, exploding from a Costa Rican volcano then flowing through exotic locations down to a local village.

Gildas Pelliet, Head of Marketing, Sony Europe, said, “Sony is famous for creating iconic commercials. We wanted to create a visually impressive and artistic advert that best demonstrates what you experience with a Sony 4K television - 4 times the detail of current Full HD televisions. The ad has a cinema-like experience with pin sharp images and dramatic scenery.”

Launched Friday 1 November with a 30-second version airing during Alan Carr’s 'Chatty Man' on Channel 4, followed the next evening by a 60-second spot aired during 'The X Factor' on ITV, the television ad campaign will be supported by press and digital activity.

Viewers hoping to experience the full impact of 4K resolution without having to invest in the latest television only have to go as far as their local cinema to see the ad; with the number of 4K-capable cinemas high and growing fast, more new films are either being converted into 4K Ultra HD digital masters from 35mm celluloid, or filmed directly in the 4K digital format using a new generation of 4K-capable digital cameras.

The Sony ad will appear before cinema screenings of upcoming blockbusters Thor: The Dark World and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug from 1 November until 9 January.
