Last month we highlighted the climax of the biggest Q2 in history and as we look to July, the height of summer, there are some incredible films to look forward to on the big screen. An animated classic returns, a blockbusting musical is set to run-and-run throughout the summer, and one of the world’s biggest stars returns in his blockbusting action series.
Incredibles 2
Target audience: Family
Even in its already legendary body of work, The Incredibles stands out as one of Pixar’s very best films. Released in 2004, it won two Oscars and grossed over £32m in the UK & Ireland. Its mix of sharp styling, witty script, three dimensional characters and expertly choreographed action made it one of the greatest superhero films of all time, an accolade it still holds. The sequel is once again directed by the genius, Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille). It’s not just the stand-out animated title of 2018, it’s one of the most exciting for years.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Target audience: 25+ ABC1 Women
The first Mamma Mia was a huge global hit, but nowhere was it as popular as the UK. With over £69m in box office takings it was, at the time, the biggest film ever released in the UK. An incredible achievement. Ten years after the first film, this sequel will capture the UK public’s hearts once again. All the major cast members return and Lily James and Cher are just two of the high-profile additions. Summer 2018 has some huge films, but Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again could eclipse them all.
Release date: 20 July 2018
Est. DCM admissions: 4.5m

Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Target audience: 25+ Men
Now firmly established as one of the best and most reliable action franchises around, Mission: Impossible returns for its sixth instalment. Rogue Nation director, Christopher McQuarrie is once again in charge. Tom Cruise reprises his role as crack secret agent, Ethan Hunt, while Rebecca Ferguson returns once more. How Tom Cruise will top the absolutely jaw-dropping aeroplane stunt from the opening scene of Rogue Nation, we have no idea, but finding out will be one of summer 2018’s biggest pleasures.
